2023 5K Team Round-Up

10.16.23

Our staff are going the extra mile… literally! Meet the coolest staff-led 5K teams on the block, and get inspired to join their teams or create your own. See you at Patterson Park on November 4!

Register to join them in the race or volunteer to cheer them on!

Homeward Bound: Team Captain Lydia Santiago
"This is Homeward Bound's fourth Rock Your Socks! “One of the reasons I got involved with the 5K because I believe housing is healthcare, and I love getting to see firsthand the excitement and joy in our clients' faces when they get a home starter kit. I also love the Disney movie Homeward Bound. We all deserve to have a safe place to call home, and it's exciting to see staff come together for a great cause."

Missing Dryer Sock Rescue Squad: Team Captain Maddy Horan
"I’m excited to participate in my second Rock Your Socks! This event feels special to me because it was one of the first things I participated in after starting at Health Care for the Homeless. Seeing the energy of all of the participants was inspiring, and I had a great time cheering on the runners and making posters for the different teams. My team is currently just my dad and I, but I’m still trying to entice some more friends and family to participate (feel free to join us!). We came up with “Missing Dryer Sock Rescue Squad” while lamenting all of the single unmatched socks we’ve collected over the years after their match was lost to the mysterious dryer void. I’m planning to wear two different socks for the 5k! Single socks can still be rocked!"

No Agony for De Feet: Team Captain Christina Bauer
“The name is my attempt at being clever… As my son would say 'mom’s not funny, dad’s funny.' I love that my friends and family can be involved whether in Baltimore or anywhere. Plus it’s always good to have motivation to get out and exercise.”

Big Foot: Team Captain Ranak Patel
My team is made up of my kids, Rohan and Veera, as well as my husband Amit! (As far as the team name, I have huge feet, so I thought it was fitting.) I'm excited for my second Rock Your Socks because the run is going to be in a beautiful location, with beautiful people, for an amazing cause!  And with all the things we have for kids and families this year—food trucks, music, tie-dye, Pop-Shot basketball—it's going to be a party.

Overwhelming SOCKcess Team Captain: Hanna Mast
This is our EIGHTH Rock Your Socks! We’re a motley crew of pun-loving current and former staff (join us!) and we rock matching team socks with pride. I’m excited to get a morning in beautiful Patterson Park, to tie-dye socks and eat donuts with you all. And…maybe this will be the year my dog Zola makes his 5K debut?!

Running up that hill… Team Captain: Kevin Lindamood
Maybe it’s a reference to… the Kate Bush song (which, thanks to its re-popularization by the Netflix series Stranger Things my children and I share an appreciation for)… or to getting older (ahem)… or to the uphill, seemingly Sisyphean nature of our work to change the structures responsible for poverty and homelessness. The team boasts as members many current and former federal, state and local public- and nonprofit-sector leaders. Ages range from the single digits to the not so single. However you connect to the name, we hope you’ll consider yourself a part of the team. Run, walk or crawl, the point isn’t necessarily to win or even to finish – but to enjoy the morning and support the mission of HCH.

Heavy HIT-ers: Team Captain Wynona China

Sole Sistas: Team Captain Lisa Lefavore

Koala-tea: Team Captain Margaret Flanagan

BeanSprout: Team Captain Lisa Zrncic
