On Saturday, December 21, we gathered at Preston Gardens Park downtown to recognize Homeless Persons' Memorial Day. We read over 180 names and honored the lives of people with the experience of homelessness who passed away in 2019. Parents, siblings, friends, loved ones. 180 names is too many. One name is too many.
“People have passed away because homelessness itself marks the failure of just about every public system imaginable,” President and CEO Kevin Lindamood said. “The gap between the very, very wealthy and the very, very poor has only continued to widen." We take this day to remember our friends and recommit to the fight to end homelessness.
