We searched long and hard for our new Director of Engagement and we are excited to announce that we’ve found the perfect fit: Eddie Martin!
Eddie started with us just last week and brings with him an impressively rich and diverse background. Eddie is a Chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserve. As an emerging Marriage and Family therapist, he has provided therapy and counseling to military and civilian personnel in the areas of couple’s therapy, family therapy, pre-marital counseling, trauma, addiction, grief/loss and stress management. He also provide religious support and leads trainings on cultural diversity and suicide awareness, among many other things.
Before coming to us, Eddie was the Director of the Center for Positive School Climate & Supportive Discipline at the University of Maryland School of Social Work where he oversaw outreach and engagement. He also has lots of experience working with the federal government on faith-based community initiatives. He was the Director of the U.S. Department of Justice Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and a Religion and Foreign-Policy Working Group Member of the Office of Religion and Global Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.
Eddie is currently working on his Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Eastern University where he’s evaluating behavioral health programs in the U.S. Army.
Astonishing resume aside, Eddie is down-to-earth and likely to woo you over with his southern twang (he’s from Alabama, after all!). He’s an avid reader and enjoys philosophy and literature. Relatively new to the area, Eddie is looking for tips on good places to go salsa dancing and hopes to rope in a few staff members to join him on his next whitewater rafting trip.
Looks like Eddie is going to mesh quite well with the Health Care for the Homeless family! Eddie will manage our community, volunteer and client relations works. Already, he’s diving right in.
Make sure to stop by and say hi to Eddie at his new home on the 3rd floor at 421 Fallsway.
