Turning 5K into 70K!

11.08.22

This first Saturday in November felt more like a spring morning, as more than 300 runners, walkers, friends and volunteers flocked to Patterson Park for the 9th annual Rock Your Socks 5K. From group warmups led by Wonder Woman to our classic wildest socks competition, the feeling of comraderie, community...and maybe just a hint of competition...was in the air.

Together we raised over $71,000 to support the work of Health care for the homeless!

That means a full year of comprehensive no-cost medical care, dental work, health screenings, prescription refills, housing support and more to 142 neighbors experiencing homelessness!

Relive every photo finish!

While there could only be one race winner – our 5K had countless pairs of picture perfect rockin’ socks. Check them out in the photo gallery.

And the awards go to...

All that sun helped bring the fun to our 5K this year. But a select few participants shined brightest with top race times, superior fundraising skill, and unforgettable style.

Highest individual fundraiser: David Dexter - $3,134.40

Highest fundraising team: Happy Feet – Captain: Margaret Garrett - $5,697.99

Fastest runners by category:

  • Punk Rocker (under 18): Liam Zinsmeister
  • Progressive Rocker (19-39): John Ford
  • Classic Rocker (40+): Brad Murach

Best socks: (and winner of the much lauded pizza beach towel) went to Tyrone Moore, for his colorful ribboned ankle ensemble.

Celebrating our colleagues (and team captains!)

Health Care for the Homeless staff were out in force as they captained 8 teams and raised a combined $8,100, including:

  • HONY Bees (Jamie Spitzer)
  • Homeward Bound (Lyida Santiago)
  • Let’s Get Fiscal (Sharon Hooper)
  • Medical Marvels (and other super heroes) (Catherine Fowler)
  • HCH Steel Team All-Stars (Max Romano)
  • Running Up That Hill (Kevin Lindamood)
  • No Agony for De Feet (Christina Bauer)
  • Overwhelming SOCKcess (Hanna Mast)

Thank you for living out your values and advocating to expand health care access to every member of our shared community. At a time when the fundamental human right to care is being denied (or rolled back) for millions of Americans, you continue to provide a safe, trusted space for individuals and families to recieve the quality care we all deserve.

Thank you to the sponsors and volunteers who made race day magic

A very special thanks to our event sponsors, for helping ensure that every dollar you raised will deliver comprehensive health care and support for people experiencing homelessness.

We can’t say enough about the all-star team of volunteers who arrived early to help us build out race village and stayed on all morning to offer water, snacks, and encouragement for participants. Our 5K wouldn’t be the same without you!

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped bring our Rock Your Socks 5K to life!
